DAYS 1–4 Indian Pacific Sydney to Adelaide to Perth

The transcontinental journey aboard the Indian Pacific from Australia's vibrant and cosmopolitan capital city Sydney to the sunny welcoming city of Perth in Western Australia takes you through one of the world's most spectacular yet unforgiving landscapes, a journey that follows in the footsteps of hardy pioneers who forged new lives in the harshest of environments. Your train departs Sydney in the afternoon, a friendly and helpful staff member escorts you to your comfortable cabin which will be your home for the duration of your epic and romantic 4352 km railway journey, as you approach the spectacular Blue Mountains settle back, relax, in the privacy of your air-conditioned cabin or head to the Outback Explorer Lounge and enjoy a welcome drink in the company of other passengers.

As your train makes its way through these sensational mountain ranges it's time to indulge yourself in the fine dining experience for which the Indian Pacific is renowned, the elegant Queen Adelaide Restaurant serves up mouth-watering fare produced onboard by talented chefs, wash it down with a glass or two of fine wines form the extensive selection available. The following morning the Indian Pacific arrives at Broken Hill where you make your first off-train excursion, explore this historic outback mining town where BHP Billiton has its origins and visit the Pro Hart Gallery and learn about one of Australia's most iconic artists, back onboard the Indian Pacific breakfast awaits as you then continue your journey deep into South Australia on the southern edge of the mighty Flinders Ranges. The landscape outside your cabin window undergoes a dramatic transformation from the barren remoteness of the outback to the golden fields of South Australia's food-bowl as you near beautiful Adelaide where you have the option to spend time in the city itself enjoying its many attractions, or alternatively you can choose to visit the picturesque Barossa Valley and its fabulous boutique wineries, your day finishes back on board the Indian Pacific with a welcoming nightcap awaiting you on your bedside table.

The first light of dawn illuminates the vast and remote emptiness of the Nullarbor as your train carries you through the longest single stretch of railway line in the world, the evening offers a chance to alight at remote Rawlinna and enjoy a traditional outback dinner under star spangled Nullarbor skies. DAY 5 Explore Perth

Perth is Australia's sunshine city, a friendly and welcoming city set on the meandering Swan River, Perth combines modern urban chic with an enviable laid-back outdoor lifestyle and is blessed with sensational white sand beaches and the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, major attractions include Kings Park, Elizabeth Quay, the Swan Valley Wine Region, The Bell Tower and the beautiful historic port city of Fremantle.

Spend the day exploring all that Perth has to offer. Visit some of the best beaches in Australia, the eerie moonscape of the Pinnacles Desert or visit the famous wine making region of Margaret River. The choice is yours.

DAY 6 Perth - Albany

Travel south through the Wheatbelt region. Stop off at the wineries in Mt Barker, go to the lookout. Drive through the heart of majestic Stirling Range National Park. See and climb Bluff Knoll. Visit Porongurup National Park. Direct driving 416 km (4.30 hours)

DAY 7 Explore Albany Region

Explore the charm of Albany town and its historic buildings. Panoramic views of King George Sound. Visit Whaleworld, the last whaling station in Australia, closed in 1978, now an educational experience. See the dramatic National Park coastline of the Great Southern Ocean - The Gap and Natural Bridge formations and the Blowholes.

DAY 8 Albany - Pemberton

Easy drive allowing many stop-offs along the way. See The Valley of the Giants and experience the 'Tree Top Walk' - discover the mighty forests of the Walpole National Park. Visit the trout and marron hatchery. Explore Pemberton National Park with its enormous karri trees, climb to the top of the Gloucester Tree look-out. Drive through Beedelup National Park and see the Falls. Direct driving 239 km (2.50 hours)

DAY 9 Pemberton - Margaret River

Very picturesque drive to the Margaret River region. Stop off at Augusta and Cape Leeuwin lighthouse, where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet and whales are spotted in season. Go down Jewel or Lake cave, under the forest. Wine tasting, dinner or a tour at one of the many very hospitable wineries. Visit one of the many galleries. Visit the world class surfing beaches, safe swimming beaches and spectacular ocean rock formations. Explore Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park. Direct driving 139 km (2 hours)
