DAY 1 Welcome to Alice Springs

As you arrive into the Red Centre of Australia you can still sense the strong pioneering outback spirit of Alice Springs. You will be personally met at the airport by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred from the airport to your hotel. You can relax and use the rest of the day to explore your hotel and its facilities, perhaps take a stroll around the neighbourhood and central Alice Springs.

DAY 2 Alice Springs Luxury Coach Tour

Your Central Australian adventure starts off today by exploring the modern face of the historic pioneer town of Alice Springs, famous for Afghan cameleers, gold-diggers, flying doctor base, school of the air, The Ghan train, the usually dry Todd River, the Simpson Desert, 'A Town Like Alice', contemporary Aboriginal art (Todd Mall) and the Aboriginal Arrernte people who have lived here for 20,000 years.

Enjoy our 4.5 hour luxury coach tour with great informative commentary from our experienced local guide. Visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service (headquarters of the globally respected medical service providing a critical link to remote communities throughout the Northern Territory), Historic Telegraph Station (site of the first European settlement in Alice Springs, established in 1872 to relay messages between Darwin and Adelaide), School of the Air (provides education to primary school aged children living on remote properties throughout the Northern Territory since 1951), Anzac Hill (dedicated as a war memorial to honour those that fallen in Australia’s wars) and Alice Springs Reptile Centre (amazing NT animals like, saltwater crocodiles, huge goannas, frill-neck lizards and Gecko Cave). You will also get a great orientation of thriving Alice Springs, touring through the town and seeing the other main attractions such as the Cultural Precinct, National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame, Road Transport Hall of Fame, Old Ghan Train Museum, Olive Pink Botanic Gardens and Todd Mall.

DAY 3 Uluru (Ayers Rock) with Special Dinner

Uluru is one of the world's most recognisable natural landmarks and is regarded in geology as an "Island Mountain". Stand in awe as it overwhelms your senses with its sheer scale, its changing colours, its incredible texture, its spirit and its wonder. The monolith of Uluru (Ayers Rock) is listed as a World Heritage Site and is 25km from Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) - a beautiful collection of protruding rock domes. Both of these remarkable features form the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park which is home to a plethora of springs, waterholes, rock caves and ancient paintings. Uluru and the Kata Tjuta have great cultural significance for the Anangu Aboriginal people who share their Dreamtime stories.

Your friendly driver will pick you up in the comfortable air-conditioned luxury coach before sharing experiences, fascinating facts and enchanting stories in the onboard full commentary throughout the day. Head out of Alice Springs along South Road, on to the Stuart Highway, pass the magnificent West MacDonnell Ranges, take a break at Erldunda Roadhouse (typical remote outback roadhouse), view the Aboriginal art display (with time to purchase), cross remote endless desert plains, experience the vast openness of Outback Australia, spot for massive road-trains, see Mt Ebenezer, Mt Conner, stunning sand ridges clad with desert oaks and Yulara (modern desert tourist resort town housing Ayers Rock Resort). Welcome to Uluru.... experience the spirit and presence of Uluru, the heart of Australia. Arrive at the base of Uluru - see it, touch it perhaps even climb it. Learn of Aboriginal Tjukurpa and rock art on the Mala Walk and take a guided walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole to see amazing Aboriginal rock art, learn of the law, legends and bush tucker of the beautiful Anangu people. Visit the Uluru and Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre and learn more about Aboriginal culture and art. Visit Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), where walking trails lead to cool valleys and secluded waterholes.

Witness the changing colours of Uluru at sunset while sipping sparkling wine and enjoying your Special Dinner. With Uluru as a dramatic backdrop, it will be hard to forget this amazing and delicious BBQ dinner. Return to Alice Springs following dinner (with a convenience stop) to conclude a day full of wonderful new experiences and new memories. Walks are optional (but included in the cost) - hats, sunscreen, sturdy walking shoes and bottled water are required when participating. Note the Uluru climb may be closed at any time due to Aboriginal cultural requirements or extreme weather. Arrive back into Alice Springs with your camera full of wonderful new memories.

DAY 4 West MacDonnell Range Luxury Coach Tour

Today explore the iconic West MacDonnell Ranges that form the dramatic ochre red back-drop to Alice Springs, including Standley Chasm, Ellery Creek, Big Hole, Ormiston Gorge and Glen Helen Gorge. This amazing Central Australian geological feature has many hidden treasures for you to discover.

Travel west on Larapinta Drive, passing the John Flynn Memorial (foot of the Mt Gillen), see what remains of the twin ghost gums (famous painting by Albert Namatjira), stop at Standley Chasm (amazing red cleft that glows) for a delicious morning tea, perhaps walk into the Chasm (Angkerle Creek bed). Stop at Ellery Creek Big Hole (optional short walk to the cool waterhole), visit the Ochre Pits and Glen Helen Gorge (semi permanent waterhole) before your scrumptious lunch (with beer, wine or soft drink). Experience Ormiston Gorge and waterhole, with time to enjoy the refreshing waterhole (perhaps have a well deserved swim). Visit Simpsons Gap. All the time spotting for the amazing wildlife such as eagles, kites and falcons (soaring above the range on warm currents) as well as black footed rock wallabies and desert lizards.

DAY 5 Palm Valley 4WD Luxury Coach Tour.

Palm Valley is well named. The contrast of the magnificent green palm trees against the red ochre earth and blue sky is a sight to be seen. The desert oasis of Palm Valley is the only place in Central Australia where livistona palms survive from the red centre's tropical past.

Today we take a luxury 4WD vehicle to the heart of the outback on an adventure to discover this amazing area. We head west on Larapinta Drive out of Alice Springs, travel alongside the ochre coloured West MacDonnells, cross vast open outback plains on Namatjira Drive, into the Aboriginal homelands of the beautiful Arrernte people and then stop to visit Hermannsburg (an 1870's Lutheran mission). Wander through historic buildings, the Hermannsburg Museum and Art Gallery and learn the reality of Aboriginal history in this region. Enjoy morning tea at Hermannsburg. Head off-road and onto the dry bed of the Finke River, follow the riverbed to Finke Gorge National Park, 4WD further into the gorge to Palm Valley, walk on the dry river bed with its amazing livistona palms and cycads (palm and fern like plants that are either all male or all female), walk along the valley rim with stunning views over Palm Valley, at Kalarranga Lookout experience amazing views over the Amphitheatre and Finke Valley. Enjoy a delicious ploughman's lunch in these spectacular surroundings. Witness the changing colours of the West MacDonnells in the afternoon light. Head back into Alice Springs onboard your luxury 4WD (four wheel drive) coach. Walks are optional (but included in the cost) - hats, sunscreen, sturdy walking shoes and bottled water are required when participating.
